The African Union named a Panel of Eminent African Personalities to assist Kenya to resolve the national crisis that followed the December 2007 elections. Former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan is the chair of the Panel. Its other members are former First Lady of South Africa Graça Machel and former Tanzanian President Benjamin Mkapa.
On 24 January 2008, the Panel was welcomed by His Excellency Mwai Kibaki, President of the Republic of Kenya, and the Honorable Raila Odinga. What ensued was the on-going Kenya National Dialogue and Reconciliation process.
