Post-Election Violence Commission gazetted
23-May-2008 - The Commission of Inquiry into the Post-Election Violence following the December 2007 General Elections - also referred to as CIPEV - was formally appointed today 23 May by a notice in the Kenya Gazette. The Commission will be headed by appellate Judge Philip Waki and the two other commissioners are Gavin Alistair McFadyen and Pascal K. Kambale. A Secretary and a Councel was also named in the notice. CIPEV - which is a product of the Kenya National Dialogue and Reconciliation - is mandated to investigate the facts and circumstances related to acts of violence that followed the elections and investigate the actions or omissions of State security agencies during the course of the violence. The Commission must finalise its work within 90 days of the notice and recommend measures to prevent future violence. It will also recommend measures to bring justice to those responsible for the violence and eradicate impunity. All news items
